JOINT MOBILISATION

When joints become dysfunctional as a result of trauma, overuse or disuse, they are unable to perform the movements for which they were designed. Joint mobilisation is a technique used to restore normal movement to a joint so that it can once again perform to its optimum. Joint mobilisation involves the chiropractor applying a series of gentle movements to a joint in the direction of its greatest restriction.

The chiropractor assesses the dysfunctional joint to determine both the magnitude and direction of the mobilization techniques needed to correct the abnormal joint movement. Once pain is under control and motion is restored, strength training or other rehabilitation exercises may be needed to return the joint to normal activity.
